How about Christmas presents on the go?

Christmas is approaching and there is that feeling of wanting to give something back to those marvellous people who have been great to you on the way or you just want to say thank you. When travelling or at a new expat home, budget can be tight and you are probably restricted in what belongings you can bring. We certainly have to be creative.

Girls, how about a minimalist approach to awesome handmade, personal presents now that knitting & crochet are back in fashion?

knitting & Crochet – thanks to Google and YouTube we can do it all!

Get yourself some needles, buy wool at the local shop and search YouTube for project ideas and tutorials.
I am fairly new to crochet and did these cute baby booties in just under a week. You can find the tutorial here – German language only (sorry!).
I have also knitted hats and scarfs last winter and love to be able to pick colours and shapes myself. A really easy project for me to learn crochet was this basket, I didn’t even need a needle for that.
It’s creative and rewarding to see what you create with your own hands. Plus, needles are light and easy to fit into any luggage. Most of them can be taken on the plane as hand luggage. Hope I could give you some ideas!

I have been a traveller and expat for over 15 years. So far my nomad lifestyle has allowed me to live and work in seven countries including the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Australia. Moving country, studying abroad and a passion for travel has been part of most of my adult life.
